Many think of marketing as a boring white collar job, but when advertisers decide to use humor and intellect as their weapons, you are sure to be entertained. These Indian print advertisements eventually make their way into our hearts and become a part of our lives. Print advertisements by Amul, Fevicol, and Dairy Milk etc. have always struck a chord with the masses. Here are some powerful, lesser known ads that didn’t need ‘sex’ or ‘star-power’ to define clever advertising for us:
This billboard of ‘Ariel’, a popular washing powder brand, sent across its point with shining white clarity.
- World Wildlife Fund (WWF)
This ingenious WWF ad was circulated to increase awareness against Rhinoceros poaching. I’m sure the Indian Rhino would be proud of the effort.
- Nivea Men
Not until the past few decades had the Indian men’s cosmetic market grown. But, with increased acceptance and market demand, this Nivea ad sure made the aware a little more conscious of their wrinkles.
- Courage India
The advertisements by this NGO often deal with cancer and its awareness. The uniqueness of this one comes from their directness of approach, making it all the more effective. I believe this should be mass produced for maximum effect about ‘lighting up your lungs’.
The most ‘hatke’ advert on this article; this was used by the popular magazine to celebrate its thirtieth anniversary. Clever advertising none the less. Baaki to samajhne waale samajh gaye.
- Don’t talk and drive
This powerful, albeit gory image, clearly conveys the danger of talking on the mobile phone when driving a vehicle, especially in high, fast moving traffic. About time you gave it up people.
- Stronger Marriage.org
This consulting firm makes indigenous use of the print medium to give us this masterpiece where a change of position of alphabet makes such a strong statement.
- Plant for the Planet
This is an impactful campaign as an effort to increase the rate of afforestation. It draws a stark picture of what our industries are doing to the greens of this planet.
This cheeky ad by Mahindra during the black and white era amuses me to no end. It’s almost as if they got a bunch of college guys and gave them free reign.
- This Nose Trimmer
This is a hilarious advert by a nose trimmer manufacturing brand. It is a perfect example of utilization of given billboard space. Hilariously smart.
- The Hindu
One of the most respected and reputable newspapers, this advertisement goes back to the time when they decided to go guns blazing at other newspapers for embracing sensationalized journalism and the ‘Page 3’ culture.
- Jaipur Foot
Another NGO delivering its message through a brilliant use of its surroundings, the Jaipur Foot works for people with physical disability.
Intelligent, spontaneous looking and with a slice of life humor, this advertisement by the job searching portal sure seems to hit a spot.
